Ramone Alley

To be from the Alley is to be loud on purpose, so no friend goes quiet on your watch.

Their gift: The Paste. A pasted name holds its Beast for the life of the paper, a week, even in the Grey, where a spoken name can't reach. The cost: Pasting without a yes pins a reputation for a season.

About 500 Beasts call Ramone Alley home.

The place

Lanes with no plan, walls pasted so thick the brick is a rumour. By day the Alley sleeps; after dark the close walls throw every amp back twice.

Their gift, and what it costs

The Paste. A name pasted with its Beast's yes holds them for the life of the paper, a week, even in the Grey, where a spoken name can't reach. Paste without a yes and it burns: it pins a reputation to that Beast for a season. The Wall's old layers are a record, and hold nothing.

What they want, and what they fear

Want: no gates, and every voice heard. Fear: being packaged, and going quiet.

People you might meet

  • Sorry Sorry (Clown, Pit host). When a door slams, Sorry Sorry is on the Pit's steps with the First Sorry before it stops swinging. Usually it was the wind. "Usually."
  • Mags Ruin (Original, Paste Wall keeper, Ask First): "I've done it without asking. A thousand times, in one night. Ask."
  • Nettle (Original, Print It All). Pastes with a brush in each hand. Mags on Nettle: "Me, twenty years ago, with better aim."
  • Blister (Hyena, drummer). Keeps twenty years of setlists taped inside the kick drum. Last week sat on it all afternoon on Ash Lane, "somewhere that isn't ringing."

Neighbours and old business

  • Concrete Jungle: siblings: the Alley pastes, the Jungle airs.
  • Studio 66: billboards the Paste Wall, so the Alley pastes over every billboard.

Books from Ramone Alley

A Beast's Book is written from their holder's choices.

No Book from Ramone Alley is open yet. A holder of a Beast from here can begin theirs in the game.

More about Ramone Alley

Their scarTwenty years ago, on the Night of a Thousand Zines, a thousand Beasts' private business went up on the walls and burned at once.

Twenty years ago, on the Night of a Thousand Zines, a thousand Beasts' private business went up on the walls and burned at once. Bands broke by morning, and better ones formed. Mags Ruin, then Print It All's loudest voice, printed them, and owned up on the Pit's steps a week later. The Alley has argued about forgiving Mags ever since, usually with Mags in the room.

What they argue aboutAsk First against Print It All.

Ask First against Print It All. Ask First: a name goes up only with its Beast's yes, written on the back. Print It All: a Beast caught in the Grey can't be asked, and paper is all that reaches them; a season burned beats fading. Ask First hold the Wall; Print It All hold Container Row.

This seasonThe Understudy wants the Quiet Week vote rerun at the first frost.

The Understudy wants the Quiet Week vote rerun at the first frost. The summer one lost by eleven hands, and Ash Lane's grey doors have doubled since. Eleven hands is a few bad nights' sleep, so the Alley plays to keep them: a show every night, and Sorry Sorry counting hands at the door.

The Hush hereThe Alley is one of the Understudy's five, and the Hush's case is strongest here: no Beasthood burns out faster.

The Alley is one of the Understudy's five, and the Hush's case is strongest here: no Beasthood burns out faster. Their best line: quiet is the one thing Studio 66 can't put on a billboard. For: Ash Lane, Blister. Against: Sorry Sorry, Nettle. Mags votes last, and has changed sides before. If it passes, Concrete Jungle carries the Alley's names; it said yes before the Alley finished asking, which the Alley finds suspicious.

PlacesThe Paste Wall: layered back to the Grey Year, whose names Ask First are matching to faces.
  • The Paste Wall: layered back to the Grey Year, whose names Ask First are matching to faces.
  • Ash Lane: the grey doors. Posters won't stick to them.
What they think is going on"The Grey is boredom with a body. Make noise and it leaves the room."

"The Grey is boredom with a body. Make noise and it leaves the room." So the Alley plays every set new, and burns out.
